Alternative Missions is getting into podcasts because, let’s face it, some things are better explained in conversation than written in a document. It’s about finding creative ways to disseminate important information in ways that people can easily digest. A few podcasts have already been created regarding the history of Alternative Missions and tasks related to the process of joining AMU (about finances, requirements, etc.).
Let’s continue discussion of ideas for podcasts useful to our missions community. We’ll keep a running list of topics and panelists here and then determine where we should begin to focus our efforts and resources.

Tom, I thought you guys did a great job on the History & Overview of Alternative Missions podcast. I enjoyed listening to it.
I also found a website that list some ideas on how to do a podcast for those interested in being a facilitator.

For interns/new staff we could do a series of short podcasts on various aspects of acculturation:
- Transitioning from a time-oriented to an event-oriented culture: How to do it well
- Thinking about your personal values and your new culture
- Biblical Absolutes vs. personal/cultural values: What really matters?
Panelists could include: Efigenia Silberman (or anyone with a local’s perspective), a couple of well-seasoned staff members. Or we could go outside of A.M.
In terms of Missionary Care topics, some ideas include:
- Self-Care/Soul Care: What is it & why is it important
- Re-entry
- Topics from MCT retreats
One more random topic - “How do develop and maintain a healthy relationships with supporters & supporting churches”. Panelists could include - Bruce Camp from Dual Reach (an organization that equips churches for missions) and George Wakeling. Both have served as missions pastors & missionaries in various aspects.
I will start my list soon. It would be great to hear from other staff as to what topics you think would be helpful for yourself and/or interns. Please; join us and help us with a list of topics.
