men-tor A wise and trusted counselor or teacher.
Mentoring–from the Greek word meaning enduring–is defined as a sustained relationship between two people. Through continued involvement, one person offers support, guidance, and assistance to the other person.

Responsible Mentoring:
* Is a structured, one-to-one relationship or partnership that focuses on the needs of the mentored participant.
* Fosters caring and supportive relationships.
* Encourages individuals to develop to their fullest potential.
* Helps an individual to develop his or her own vision for the future.

More than anything else students need the love and concern of someone who is going to look out for them and help them along the journey of missions development. Be a caring friend. Walk through the journey with them looking out for their highest good. People are more important than Alternative Missions projects. - Tom Hackett - Director

1. Prayerfully consider how you can be a blessing to the person you are mentoring and how God might use you to encourage them.

2. Thoroughly “Surf” the Alternative Missions University Website and become knowledgeable of our organization and culture. There is a lot of material you will need to know about Alternative Missions and how we function.

3. Be familiar with the “Student - Things To Do” list and reinforce the need to complete each task.

4. Have personal appointments, phone conversations and email frequently to encourage the student and to help the student stay on course towards completing their plans and goals.
